Friday: Fournette doubtful, three out

JACKSONVILLE – Leonard Fournette is doubtful for Sunday.

That’s the official word from the Jaguars as of Friday afternoon, and running back officially is a major question for the team entering Sunday’s regular-season finale.

Fournette, who has missed seven of 15 games this season with injury and discipline issues, was listed as doubtful on Friday’s game status report in advance of the Jaguars’ Week 17 game against the Houston Texans at NRG Stadium Sunday at 1 p.m.

Fournette practiced limited Wednesday with a foot/ankle issue before missing practice Thursday and Friday.

“He really hasn’t practiced all week, so it’s a tough deal,” Head Coach Doug Marrone said.

Carlos Hyde, who led the Jaguars with 47 yards rushing on eight carries in a 17-7 victory over the Miami Dolphins last Sunday, was added to the injury report as a limited participant in practice Friday. He is listed as questionable with a knee injury entering the weekend.

“He just had a little inflammation,” Marrone said of Hyde.

The Jaguars currently have two healthy running backs on the active roster: Dave Williams and veteran T.J. Yeldon, the latter of whom was a healthy scratch against Miami.

Fournette, who rushed for 1,040 yards and nine touchdowns as a rookie after being selection No. 4 overall in the 2017 NFL Draft, missed six of the first eight games this season with a hamstring injury. He also missed the fourth quarter of a November 25 loss at Buffalo after being involved in a multiplayer altercation, serving a one-game suspension for that incident the following week.

Marrone was asked to characterize Fournette’s season.

“He played less than 30 percent of the snaps on offense,” he said.

Veteran cornerback D.J. Hayden, the Jaguars’ nickel corner, was added to the injury report Friday as a limited participant with a groin injury. Hayden also will be listed as questionable entering the weekend.

Three Jaguars players were ruled out for Sunday: cornerback A.J. Bouye (toe), kicker Josh Lambo (right groin) and right tackle Josh Wells (concussion). Bouye and Wells were injured against Miami, while Lambo has missed the last two games.

Corey Robinson will start at right tackle for Wells, Marrone said on his radio show Thursday night and confirmed Friday. Kai Forbath, who has kicked for Lambo the last two games, again will handle field goals and extra points.

Robinson starting means the Jaguars will start their eighth offensive line combination of the season, with right guard A.J. Cann the only Week 1 starter expected to start Sunday. Robinson will be their third starting right tackle this season, and the fourth player to play the position. Ereck Flowers, a starter at left tackle the past five weeks, is the fourth player to start there for the Jaguars this season.

Rookie wide receiver DJ Chark Jr. as expected was removed from the injury report Friday and is expected to play Sunday. He has missed the last five games with a quadriceps injury.

Quarterback Cody Kessler (right shoulder) and safety Tashaun Gipson (foot) were removed from the game status report Friday and are expected to play. Cornerback Jalen Ramsey was listed as practicing limited with a toe injury Friday but is expected to play Sunday.
